Accessible Bathrooms in Spokane, WA

We make bathrooms safer and easier to use with low-barrier and roll-in showers, walk-in tubs, grab bars and benches. The price depends mostly on the type of shower or tub and whether the doorway needs widening.

Typical cost: $7,000 to $30,000 per project

What moves the price:

  • Roll-in shower versus a low-barrier base
  • Walk-in tub features like jets and a heated seat
  • Widening the doorway

A range, not a quote.

What goes into an accessible bathroom

A roll-in shower has no curb, a low-barrier shower has a very low one, and a walk-in tub has a door in its side. Grab bars, a bench or fold-down seat and a non-slip floor finish the room. Accessible doesn’t have to look clinical, and the fixtures can match the rest of the house.

Plan around the person who uses it

Tell the contractor who uses the bathroom and how they get around; that decides which options fit. Someone who uses a walker or a wheelchair needs room to turn, so doorway width and floor space decide the layout. Turning space and door width come from accessibility standards and your building code, so ask which one the plans follow.

Bars, rails and entries

Beyond the shower, accessibility work includes handrails, transfer poles and sometimes a ramp at the entry. A tub-to-shower conversion is often the first step for someone aging in place. A grab bar needs solid blocking behind it, which is why bars go in easiest while the wall is open.

Permits

Widening a doorway or moving plumbing can need a permit. We’ll go over permits for your project at the estimate.

Can you build a shower for a wheelchair?

Yes. A roll-in shower with a ramp or a curbless entry can be sized for a wheelchair.

Do grab bars need special walls?

They need solid blocking behind them, which is why bars go in easiest while the wall is open.

How much does it cost to make a bathroom handicap accessible?

It depends on the shower or tub, the doorway and the layout. The proposal lists each piece, so you can see what drives the total.
